Goals for 2012

For some reason, I’m not ok with New Year resolutions. Resolutions seem doomed for failure, don’t they?  Only 46% of resolutions made, make it past 6 months. Kind of sad, huh? Instead of making resolutions, I make goals at the beginning of each year. Most of the time, I don’t even bother making goals at the first of the year, but this year is a bit different.

I made 3 main goals for myself this year, that I’d like to share (all of which were made before Christmas, so Christmas 2012 is my deadline):

#1 loose 30 lbs by Christmas

Funny thing is, both the Bestie and I made the same goal, with out knowing it!

At less than a lb per week, I should be able to make this happen. My plan? Yoga every day, some form of cardio 3 days a week (still trying to figure out what will work for me, since running is a no go & I’m petrified of bicycles), drinking a healthy amount of water, eating more veggies than carbs and cutting back on my sugar intake. I’m not trying to be skinny, rather, I want to be healthy and get to the point where daily exercise is a habit.  Don’t get me started on people who think skinny feels better than “fat”. Healthy feels better than unhealthy, no matter what weight you are!!

#2 Only use fabric from my stash

{image from allsorts.typepad.com}
Isn’t this lovely? If only my stash were as prettily displayed. Or that small….

Like most seamstresses, I have a huge stash of fabric, just waiting to be used. Right after Christmas, I went through my highboy dresser and organized all of my fabric. My poor dresser was overflowing into piles around my sewing room, crying to be put away. As I worked my way through it all, I’d start to remember what project each fabric was for. Most of it had been sitting around for 4 years! “Self,” I said, “no more buying fabric until you use all this up!” While I can by notions, like interfacing, buttons, zippers, etc. all fabric I use this year has to come out of my stash.

#3 Make all of Emmaline’s clothes

Along with #2, I can only make Emmaline’s clothes, not buy them. My hubby had my serger fixed for me for Christmas, so there’s no excuses. Underwear and socks will be purchased, but the rest has to be homemade. As she only wears dresses, I think I can do it.

Let’s hope I can stick to my guns!!  I’m off to a good start, since I already made one dress for Emmaline using 2 yds of fabric I bought a year ago.  I’ll post about it a day or so, once I can get her to stand still for a few photos.

Potent Quotable

One of my favorite quotes these days is by the amazing C.S. Lewis. It’s been rattling around in my brain for a few weeks and I just had to design something with it (the images I found of it on the webs were just disappointing). So, here’s my artistic typographic interpretation 🙂

Certainly puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?

This week’s questions are from Impulsive Addict:
{1} What was the last thing you searched for online?
{2} If we visit your home state, what is one MUST we should do before leaving?
{3} What do you think pharmaceutical companies should invent a pill for that isn’t on the market yet?
{4} When was your first kiss? Was it good or bad?
{5} What is your guilty pleasure tv show that you can not miss?
{1} Sailor Moon doll postings on ebay – I have two Tuxedo Mask dolls that I need to sell that were unearthed at my Mom’s house.  Not sure if they will sell or for how much, but it’s worth a try!
{2} You must, must, must visit Super Taq if you are ever in the Cali Bay Area. I love me some cheap, honest, Mexican food. If you’re looking for something to do (other than tickle your taste buds), I’d say you’ve got to hit up Dennis the Menace Park in Monterey. It’s free and super awesome.
{3}A pill to cure celiacs disease!! I want to eat yummy food again and not have to spend a fortune for crazy flours to make bread stuff by scratch. Or spend $5 on a loaf of gf bread at the grocery store.
{4}My first kiss was during the summer before college when I was a tender 18. Of course, it was with the worse possible guy (not confessing who at the moment…) and not the smartest move I ever made. In my defense, I was 18, on the cusp of the biggest adventure of my life, and feeling like I was the only girl on the planet who was unkissed at 18.
{5} My guilty pleasure show? Well, I love me some Say Yes to the Dress, but am unwilling to pay for cable, so I watch it when the new seasons are uploaded on Netflix’s instant streaming 🙂

This week’s questions are from Impulsive Addict

1). If the blogging world had a talent show, what would your act be?

2). What’s the most likely reason you might become famous?

3). What question are you repeatedly asked that you are tired of hearing?

4.) What’s the last thing you broke?

5.) Finish this sentence.  I can’t believe I used to ________.

1) My act would be a duet with my hubby. We both love to sing, but he is the far more talented of us. I swear the boy has relative pitch, so when we sing together, I hold the pitch without going flat. He also plays guitar, so we could totally pull together a cute rendition of a Jack Johnson song.

2) The most likely reason I might become famous is through graphic design. If only I’d put the effort into designing 24/7 and getting lots of clients, but at the moment, I’d rather focus on Bean 🙂

3) “When are you going to have another baby?” UGH I am so sick of that question. I feel like I need to walk around with a stamp across my forehead that says “Infertile” or “We’re trying. Leave off.”

4) The last thing I broke…. hmmm…. I break things so often, I can’t keep track. I think it was a glass.  Or maybe a hairbrush….

5) I can’t believe I used to wear blue eyeshadow up to my eyebrows. I don’t know if it’s obvious from this photo, but it’s really all the way up to my eyebrows.  This was taken at my 16th birthday party, which was 70s themed, but don’t let the idea of a party lead you to think it was just a one time thing. I often wore my eyeshadow like that. And I always wore ridiculous 70s/80s non matching outfits. *sigh* It took me a while to comfortable in my own skin 🙂

Want to Know Wednesday

We Want to Know Wednesday Q&A hosted by:

Impulsive AddictJanetteMamarazzi and Seriously ShawnPhotobucket

This week Seriously Shawn is asking the questions…
{1} What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex? Are you an eyes or a smile person? Maybe another body part?
{2} If a movie was being made about you who would you like to see cast to play you? And would your movie be a comedy, drama, romantic-comedy, action film or a horror movie?
{3} Does your high school yearbook include a senior comment section? If so share what you said about your future goals. Have you met those goals? If you do not have a yearbook just share what your goals where when you were 18 and if you have met them. If you’re brave enough include your Senior Picture!
{4} What latest trend simply baffles you?
{5} When you walk into a room how do you present yourself? Do you walk in with confidence and command the attention of others or do you slink in and do your best to go unnoticed?
These ones were a bit tricky for me:

{1} Eyes, eyebrows, and butt. I think. It’s been only 6 years since I left the singles market and I can’t remember what I noticed most about men. But these are the things I love most about the Hubs, so they must have been something I noticed first.
***
{2} A movie about me? Uhhh… I guess I would have to pick Anne Hathawayto play me, since she’s the only actress anyone has mentioned I look like.
She also has my body type, but we’ll have to hook her up to an IV filled with twinkies to get her weight anywhere near mine. And for the hubs it would have to be Micheal Welch.

Don’t they look similar? This is the hubs at the tender age of 21.
And I guess it would be a romantic comedy, since I’m always doing strange things, being goofy (without trying), tripping over my own two feet and being a total nerd. Another reason why Miss Anne would work well. And I am totally in love with the Hubs and our little Bean.
***
{3} My goals at 18? To be a famous painter and live in San Fran. Or write a book. I’d be lying if I said I had a clue when I graduated from high school 🙂 I haven’t met either one of those goals, but my life is far more rich than I could have ever imagined back then.

oh, to be young and clueless again – sans those horrible eyebrows 🙂
***
{4} Leggings. Leggings are not pants people. They aren’t flattering. They aren’t modest. They don’t make a mini skirt acceptable. They don’t magically turn a tunic or a shirt into a dress. And they certainly don’t do anything for anyone over 90 lbs.
Just say no.
***
{5} When I walk in a room? That’s not something I think about much. I’m not an attention seeker, but I’m not shy either. So I’d have to say I am in the middle – I walk in a room with confidence, but don’t expect all eyes on me nor do I try to blend in. I just do my thing 🙂

Happy Easter/ Easter Dresses Part II

We should be rolling around, with all the food we’ve eaten yesterday and today (I swear, I portion controlled myself, but it sure doesn’t feel like I did), and with all the wonderful Spiritual nourishment we gained from our Easter Sacrament Meeting. Not that we aren’t fed Spiritually every Sabbath, but I walked away from our meeting feeling more “full” than usual.

Easter is a lovely day – a day we celebrate rebirth. A day to remember that our Savior died so that we may be saved. That he not only died, but rose again from the grave. What a lovely thing to celebrate.

As in many families, we get new clothes for Easter. I do this in part to make the holiday special, but to also remind us that we can be made new again through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

This year, I made the Beans dress and bought mine.

Hers turned out so adorable, but the hem line bothered me.

So I added a ruffle to the bottom. Much better, don’t you think?

And mine, from eShatki (made exactly to my measurements!), fit perfectly.

I feel like the pictures don’t do it justice – I look all sorts of saggy and baggy. But what can one do when you take a 3D object and flatten it into a digital format? Maybe it’s just my over critical eye…

I hope you all have had a beautiful Easter!

Good Things To Come

Oh sweet little blog, with your few followers, I do have some fancy ideas for you this year.

Numerous tutorials, patterns and shameless plugs for my etsy shop are in the works, as are a few other ideas.

But here is the teaser of what to look forward to:

ain’t it just so cute?

Tis the Season

Happy December! This is my favorite time of the year, and also the busiest around our house. Not only do we have two more holidays (yay!) but we have two birthdays smack in the middle of both Christmas and New Years. It adds some extra crazy to my already crazy holiday prep, but I love it.

Since my Christmas shopping is all but finished (everyone aside from the Hubs and Bean are getting hand made items this year), I’ve had some extra time to craft and design.  So, my etsy shop is updated with two new hair accessories and two Christmas photo cards to help you guys check some gifts off your lists! Yay!

I’ve had a few people ask about what age group the headbands are for and my response is, any! There’s no reason for little girls to have all the fun, so adults, teens, kids, anyone can wear my headbands. I haven’t successfully made the crochet ones for babies yet, but the flowers themselves can be ordered with just a clip so they can go on a baby headband.

First up is the Clementine headband, which you may remember from my previous post. I also made one in orange and I can put them on clips, too, so if you want another color or it on a clip, just send me a message on etsy.

Second is the Grace Headband, which can also be made as a clip. Sorry folks, it only comes in off white right now, but once I get my lazy derrier up to civilization, I’ll be adding a few more colors. This sweet headband I made on Thanksgiving morning to make my other wise drab outfit feel a little more fancy for the holiday. I can also put both the Clemintine and the Grace on a stretchy headband for little babies, if you are looking for a gift for a younger sweetie pie.

Now for the cards: one is the Manny and the other is the Berry. There we originally designed for a contest, which I didn’t win (sad), but now you all can order them for your own use. Just drop your photo in and print them off at Costco or Shutterfly. Super easy. They come in 5×7, 4×6, and 6×7.

Check out my shop eviesbeans.etsy.com, where you can also find my oh so cute crocheted headbands, too!

Babies are such a great way to start people

A good friend of mine is having a baby girl in February. She’s actually the sister of the Hubs’ best childhood friend, whom I was on a date (of sorts) with when I met the Hubs. And whose mother was my coworker at Barnes and Noble and takes credit for my marriage, since she set her son and I up, leading to the “date” on which I met the Hubs. And my friend married a good friend of the Hubs and her brother/the childhood best bud. Follow? Good. Anyways, love that girl and am so excited for her to be a mommy. And dying to find out what her name will be (they are keeping it a secret).

So excited, in fact, that I whipped up this little sundress number for the bundle of joy to wear next summer, using B3405 .

The fabric is from an old dress of my sister-in-law’s, of which I totally forgot to snap a picture. Think this (which is actually the dress, but chopped short), but with this length skirt. I have more than enough fabric left over to make a dress for Bean.

The cotton eyelet lace is from my Mom’s amazing stash (she and I have an affinity for the stuff). As are the buttons which of course I forgot to take a picture of. Geeze, I really dropped the ball on picture taking with this project, didn’t I?? Just picture cute white buttons down the back. Anyways, I love the fabric with the lace – gives it a feminine feel with out all the pink or heinous purple.

I just can’t wait to see the little squishy she-whose-name-will-not-be-said in this number next year!

It’s Open!
